The vintage-inspired barbershop is hardly a new concept, and neither is this London-based chainlet, which opened its first New York venture on the Lower East Side in 2008. But its huge new Williamsburg salon nails both the interior aestheticpressed tin ceilings, leather barbershop chairs, a loudly ka-chinging registerand the art of the old-school cut. Owner Russell Manley looks every inch the part with his bushy mustache and inked-up arms and has style cred, too, having worked with the likes of Nick Knight and Lou Reed. Though half of his clients are women (he’s a master of the fringe), guys specifically seek out Manley for the classic short back and sides look. The throwback cut pairs perfectly with the barber’s traditional hot-towel, open-razor shave ($40).
