Best Slice

  • Rubirosa

235 Mulberry St., nr. Prince St. 212-965-0500

Rubirosathe Nolita spinoff of Staten Island’s Joe & Pat’sis no slice joint, but from 11:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. it serves a deceptively satisfying slice. The sauce is good and bright if not spectacular, the crust remarkable only for its paper-thin crispness, the mozzarella imported from Wisconsin. And yet, this is a slice whose whole exceeds the sum of its parts. This is a slice with a balance of flavor that your average artisanal pizzaiolo would sell his soul for. That you can wolf it down at a handsome wooden bar with a cold beer doesn’t detract from the experience. A slice should tide you over and fix you up, even soothe the soul a bit. Rubirosa’s is all you could ask for in a slice.
