The antithesis of a traditional indoor playspace, ExerBlast, which opened in September, is aimed to appeal to Generation Tech kids who are more accustomed to switching on a Wii than throwing a ball around outdoors. At this Tribeca storefront, the little ones each strap on an iPod Touch that’s been programmed to tabulate pointsthe more you move, the more you earnas they bounce through interactive activities, from climbing a wall covered in digital projections to playing a tweaked version of tag with fast-moving projected lights. Unlike at most children’s spaces, parents are encouraged to participate. (Prices are per person, starting at $30 for a drop-in session.) After school, ExerBlast has a pickup service for students at P.S. 234 and P.S. 150, among others, and also offers a birthday-party room, classes for special-needs children, and monthly evening sessions so parents can go out for a sitterless dinner.
