Late last month, when we heard that White House budget director Peter Orszag was engaged to beautiful ABC News reporter Bianna Golodryga, we were so innocently happy for him. Look at that face! That is the expression of a man who literally never thought he could get so lucky. But then this afternoon, the Post informs us that “lucky” might not be the only word to describe this guy’s love life. Turns out that barely six weeks before he proposed to Golodryga, his ex-girlfriend gave birth to his daughter. Orszag had told the longtime ex, Yale grad and Harvard MBA (and shipping heiress) Claire Milonas, that he’d marry her when they discovered she was pregnant in early 2009, according to a Post source. But she was a mere three months along when he broke it off — in fact, Orszag was still dating her when he met future fiancée Golodryga at the White House Correspondents Association Dinner in early May. Barely a half-year later, he was engaged to the news beauty, and Milonas was alone with little Tatiana Zoe. Political economists — who knew?

Update: The OMB has passed along this joint statement from Milonas and Orszag:
“We were in a committed relationship until the spring of 2009. In November, Claire gave birth to a beautiful baby girl. Although we are no longer together, we are both thrilled she is happy and healthy, and we would hope that everyone will respect her privacy.”
A source close to Orzag also clarifies that he and Milonas were not, in fact, dating when he met his fiance.
