It really doesn’t matter how involved President Obama has been in the oil-spill crisis, how many briefings and meetings he’s held up in Washington. Until the American people and the media actually witness Obama physically engaging in symbolic acts of micromanagement on location at the beaches, they will not allow that he’s engaged at all. So here, look: It’s Obama crouching in the sand, with his shirtsleeves rolled up (so you know he’s working hard), literally inspecting some tar balls that washed ashore. Now that he’s personally confirmed the existence of oil on the beaches, can he go back to Chicago and let the experts continue doing their jobs?
