Jorge Muñoz, a Queens man we wrote about last October when he was a finalist in a CNN competition to crown the “Hero of the Year,” cooks over a hundred hot meals each night and hands them out to hungry people on the street, even after waking up at 5 a.m. each day to drive a school bus. Tragically, he was defeated by a guy who works to educate impoverished Filipino children. But as a nice consolation prize, Muñoz was awarded the Presidential Citizens Medal the nation’s second-highest civilian honor in a White House ceremony yesterday. And in a special gesture reserved for only the most exceptional citizens, Obama also rubbed his nose on Muñoz’s bald forehead, the nation’s highest civilian honor.
