Back in June, when we ran through a list of possible replacements for outgoing New York Times Magazine editor Gerry Marzorati, New Yorker features editor Daniel Zalewski was last on our list. But according to the Observer, he was at the top of the Times’ list: The salmon-tinted paper reports this morning that Zalewski was offered the job. He apparently turned it down in exchange for what writer John Koblin called “a David Remnick–like deal that will allow him to write more for the magazine. Plus, some assistant help!” Times executive editor Bill Keller, meanwhile, says he is “pretty close” to finding someone for the job.
