Yesterday, the man who shot U.S. representative Gabrielle Giffords and several bystanders in Tucson in January pleaded not guilty to 49 charges related to the attack. For some of the survivors of the shooting, the trial hearing was the first time they had a chance to see Jared Loughner since that awful day. It is still unclear whether Loughner is mentally fit to stand trial. [NYT]
