It’s hard to say what the best part of Charlie Crist’s humiliating video apology to David Byrne for using the Talking Heads song “Road to Nowhere” in his Senate campaign is. The hostage-video lighting, which throws into sharp relief the Sesame Street colors and shapes the former governor of Florida is composed of? The almost heartbreakingly sincere attempt to connect with his viewers by making eye contact with the camera and remembering his lines? Or the humiliating content of said lines, in which Crist is forced to apologize not just to Byrne for using his song “and his unique voice” but to all other artists who have endured such misery. Would that all lawsuits were settled this way.
