On Wednesday, the death toll in Joplin, Missouri, hit 125, the largest death toll from a tornado in 64 years. Two days after the storms, around 1,500 people are still missing, though many believe that number is inflated by people being out of town. Severe weather continues across the region, making search-and-rescue missions difficult and dangerous, and as of Wednesday, some 14,000 of Joplin’s 50,000 residents were without power and dealing with low water pressure. Storms continued to ravage the region on Tuesday and Wednesday. In neighboring Oklahoma, nine died Tuesday night as several tornadoes tore through the state, and there were four fatalities in Arkansas and two in Kansas.
