The New York Times Company is close to unloading the languishing early Internet artifact About.com, All Things D reports. The suitably named Answers.com has signed a letter of intent to acquire the website for $270 million, a good bit less than the $410 million the Times Co. paid for About back in 2005. In its most recent earnings report, the company took a $195 million write-down on the content farm, which is currently led by an article called “Cat Personalities.”
