A spokeswoman for Michael Grimm emailed reporters this afternoon to say that workers found smashed windows at the Republican congressman’s campaign office in Staten Island. In a followup call with Politicker, Carol Danko said the NYPD had also discovered that the hard drives of several office computers had been erased, and that they believed the broken windows “may have been a ‘cover up’ to distract from the compromised computers.” She added that the information on the computers was not sensitive (and that it had already been backed up). As for who might be responsible, Danko said that while police don’t currently have any suspects, the campaign “does believe this is politically motivated.”
