The chairman and chief executive of the state MTA, Joe Lhota, does not think much of the mayor’s prediction as to when the Queens Midtown tunnel will open. Lhota said the tunnel could reopen Friday, before “remarking that Mr. Bloomberg, ‘like an idiot,’ had predicted publicly that the tunnel might open over the weekend. ‘He’s making it up,’ he said, after a brief hail of profanity in which Mr. Lhota wondered aloud who, exactly, Mr. Bloomberg had been talking to.” Update: Since being quoted in the Times disparaging his boss, Lhota has called the mayor to apologize.
