Nobody’s going on the record to say Ed Schultz’s 8 p.m. time slot on MSNBC is in jeopardy. But in spite of Schultz’s animated denial on his radio show Tuesday, that rumor has persisted ever since the New York Times’ Brian Stelter reported Sunday that MSNBC might eventually replace him with the Washington Post’s Ezra Klein. Network spokespeople have maintained that “there are no changes planned” to the lineup, and on Tuesday Schultz took out his frustration at the rumor on Stelter, who he’s mad never called him for comment. “If somebody is telling Stelter that I’m going to be replaced, we know that his nose as a reporter doesn’t sniff very well because he never called me and I’m probably one of the most accessible guys in the media,” Schultz said on his radio show, according to Politico’s Dylan Byers and Kevin Cirilli. But in reporting Schultz’s comments, Byers and Cirilli also pointed out that most of their sources had told Byers the same thing about Klein being likely destined for Schultz’s slot. Schultz can be mad at Stelter all he wants, but it’s the MSNBC “sources” that are fomenting the rumors of his eventual decline.
