According to New York City Campaign Finance Board filings, Anthony Weiner paid David Binder Research $54,000 for political polling on March 5. He also gave the firm $52,500 for “consulting work” the day before. The former congressman, who had a good chance of succeeding Mayor Bloomberg before all that unpleasantness, was recently said to be considering a run for city comptroller — a race that is currently locked up by Manhattan borough president Scott Stringer — but he’s not saying whether the aforementioned spending means that he’s planning a late-in-the-game entry to either race. “Nothing to report beyond what I reported,” he said. Maybe that $4.5 million in leftover campaign funds was simply burning a hole in his pocket.
