Shortly after completing an incredible tightrope walk across a the Grand Canyona canyon that looked a lot like the Grand Canyon last night on live television, Nik Wallenda was asked about his next stunt. “Wallenda said he next wants to stroll the skies between the Empire State and Chrysler buildings — a space of some nine city blocks,” the Post reports, adding, “If he gets permission, the walk would be 4,000 feet, more than triple the length of Sunday’s stunt.”
It would also be about twenty times the distance between the Twin Towers, a space that Philippe Petit traversed in 1974, during a rogue walk that was later the subject of the Oscar-winning documentary Man on Wire:
Of course, Petit didn’t ask permission for his stunt, and it’s not clear whether the city and the owners of the respective buildings would be okay with the possibility of Wallenda splattering onto the streets of New York. Then again, Wallenda has shown an amazing ability to, you know, not die during these things. Chances are he’d just be another insane person walking around New York while talking to Jesus.
