Since he was acquitted in the murder of Trayvon Martin two months ago, George Zimmerman has the right to buy as many guns as he’d like, and in fact his attorney Mark O’Mara argued there’s “even more reason” for Zimmerman to carry a firearm now, as “There are a lot of people out there who actually hate him, though they shouldn’t.” In that case, you might think he’d lay low for a bit, but instead Zimmerman decided to take a field trip to the Kel-Tec gun manufacturing company in Cocoa, Florida on Thursday, and pose for at least one smiley photo.
While Zimmerman is already familiar with Kel-Tec — the company’s PF-9 pistol is the one used against Martin (it was returned to him after the trial) — TMZ reports that today’s walk-through involved him seeing where the firearms are assembled, asking “questions about the legality of buying a shotgun,” and snapping a photo with an employee in an unnerving display of celebrity (captured here). The weapon that caught Zimmerman’s eye is the Kel-Tec KSG, a tactical shotgun that holds twelve rounds of 12-gauge shells and is often used for home defense. It’s unclear if he actually purchased it.
