Though Chris Christie has been slimming down recently, fat jokes are still a key part of his shtick. That may be why his Democratic opponent State Sen. Barbara Buono thought it was acceptable to quip, “I don’t know about you, but seeing Chris Christie frolicking on the beach is not going to drive me to go to the shore,” in reference to New Jersey’s tourism ads. “I’m very disappointed that she decided to go down that road, for me and for other folks across New Jersey, many folks, who are challenged by their weight,” Christie responded. “The fact that someone running for governor would make derisive comments about someone’s physical appearance is really beneath the office she’s seeking.” Late-night comedians can breathe easy, as it appears Christie’s new opposition to fat jokes only applies to people running against him.
