Rob Ford has finally, ever-so-slightly succumbed to reality. In a scrum with astonished reporters just now, the mayor of Canada’s largest city admitted, “Yes, I have smoked crack cocaine.” Ford claimed that he is “not an addict” and merely “tried it” sometime in the past year in a “drunken stupor,” although he doesn’t remember where.
And yet, even though Ford finally said something true about the crack scandal for the first time since it began in May, he’s clearly not ready to be completely honest. Rather than admit that he’s been lying for months, Ford insisted, “I wasn’t lying, you didn’t ask the correct questions,” which is itself a lie.
Anyway, Ford would like to just “move on” now, if that’s cool with everybody.
Update, 2:04 p.m.: Rob Ford tells the Toronto Sun, “I have work to do and I am moving on. The way I see it now, this is over.”
