The board of the 9/11 Memorial voted Thursday to set the price of admission for the new underground museum, and it is no bargain: At $24 per adult, the entry fee rivals that of the Museum of Modern Art ($25) or the Metropolitan Museum of Art ($25), but even the Met’s fee is not mandatory. The 9/11 Memorial board says it calculated the fee based on a need of $60 million a year. A highly (and perhaps justifiably) offended New York Daily News added, “Horrible caveat: The $24 charge assumes that the federal government will kick in $20 million that Congress has never before seen fit to approve. So the real admission price could go significantly higher.” At least family members of the victims will be able to get in for free.
