Mayor de Blasio’s plan to bring the next Democratic National Convention to Brooklyn now has a commercial. “From Barclays to Broadway,” the voice-over offers, “Carroll Gardens to Corona. The Apollo Theater to the Staten Island Ferry.” (Flashy and new, but also working-class and diverse!) “This is a city where history is made in the Bronx, while dinner is served in Queens, and memories are made in Brooklyn.” Based on the accompanying montage, New York City also offers:
- Lots of brownstones
- Occasional Kevin Garnett appearances
- Plenty of green taxis
- Food trucks
- Moms and babies in quirky winter hats
- Neon signage art
- Hipsters taking cabs
- Cute kids with floppy hair
- Tourists taking photos in the middle of the street
- The LCD Soundsystem documentary playing at BAM
- Dim sum
- Artisanal cocktails
- Russ & Daughters
- The Statue of Liberty
Sounds about right.
