Last summer the Republican National Committee dispatched an intern in a squirrel costume to follow Hillary Clinton’s book tour promoting the slogan “Another Clinton in the White House Is Nuts.” That might have left you with the impression that the GOP doesn’t want Clinton to run for president, but now it’s annoyed that she hasn’t started campaigning yet. On Tuesday the RNC will launch a campaign titled “Hillary’s Hiding” to bash the former secretary of State for her recent lack of participation in a campaign that somehow feels old, though, technically, it’s barely started.
Politico reports that the effort will include billboards in early primary states, op-eds, and videos that dub her candidacy #Obama’s 3rd term. The RNC also sent out a memo in which it noted that Clinton hasn’t visited Iowa or New Hampshire since the midterms, and she’s refrained from holding press conferences or even going on the record in press reports.
The presumed Democratic front-runner appears to be in no rush to jump into the race, and according to a recent report, she may even delay the launch of her campaign from April to July. “She doesn’t feel under any pressure, and they see no primary challenge on the horizon. If you have the luxury of time, you take it,” one Democratic source told Politico. Maybe the RNC can take this time to help some of its own candidates get their facts straight.
