The Obama administration asked a federal appeals court to pretty please with a cherry on top reverse a temporary hold placed on the president’s executive actions on immigration in February. The court denied the Justice Department’s request, saying that the 26 states suing the government for what they deem “unconstitutional” executive actions — which would have helped undocumented immigrants avoid deportation and get work permits — had legal grounds to do so. The two judges who voted to keep the injunction were appointed by Republican presidents. The only judge to side with the Obama administration was appointed by Obama. The overall fate of the immigration plan — and the outcome of the state’s lawsuit — will likely remain undecided for months.
