The Chicago Cubs moved into Wrigley Field 99 years ago, and incredibly, they’d never clinched a postseason series there — until tonight. With a 6-4 win in Game 4 of the NLDS, the Cubs eliminated the Cardinals to advance to the National League Championship Series for the first time since 2003, when they famously lost to the Marlins in a series best known for the Steve Bartman incident. They’re now eight wins away from their first World Series victory since 1908.
A day after going deep six times in Game 3, the homer-happy Cubs hit three more in Game 4, including a go-ahead shot by Anthony Rizzo in the sixth and a monster blow by Kyle Schwarber in the seventh. The Cubs, whose 97 wins this year gave them the third-best record in their division but also the third-best record in baseball, now await the winner of the Mets-Dodgers series.
