Mets pitcher Jenrry Mejía has been banned for life by Major League Baseball for failing his third test for performance-enhancing drugs. Mejía — who’d already been suspended for 80 games last April and 162 games last July — tested positive for Boldenone, an anabolic steroid, and as a result became the first player permanently banned from baseball for using PEDs. Mejía, who had been expected to begin the 2015 season as the Mets’ closer, joins Pete Rose as the only living players on the sport’s banned list.
