You’re not crazy: It felt like 19 degrees in Central Park this morning. The high Tuesday is going to be around 40 degrees — usually the low this time of year.
This unseasble cold snap coincides with the Yankees’ opening day game. It’s so cold that maintenance crews have been installing heaters in the clubhouse and dealing with ice on the playing field.
No such luck for the fans. It’s going to feel like a toasty 30 degrees in the stands.
But still better than this morning.
So, when will spring return? Wednesday won’t be that much better — a high in the mid-40s. Thursday will actually heat up — close to 60 degrees! — but likely also bring rain as cold and warm fronts meet. It’s going to be gross: New York could see up to a quarter of an inch of rain with wind gusts up to 40 miles per hour.
Get comfortable with the chilliness. According to an Accuweather meteorologist: “Below-normal temperatures will be the theme for the Northeast through approximately the middle of the month before a warmup to end the month.”
