The NYPD is cracking down on the city’s gangs, and in the past few months cops have made more than 200 gang-related arrests. That includes April’s Bronx takedown — the largest in the city’s history — where about 100 people were charged.
NYPD officials said they’re keeping the pressure on the city’s cliques, and have more roundups scheduled for June and July. “If they’re not nervous, they should be nervous,” said NYPD Chief of Department James O’Neill about these reputed gang members. “This is something that we do and we do very well.”
What else does the NYPD do well? Or, er, at least creatively? Come up with names for these gang takedown operations. Behold:
Well, maybe some credit goes to the gangs. Many refer to the targeted groups: Operation BMB-2Fly ECG went after the Big Money Bosses and 2Fly in that record Bronx raid. Operation Stoppin’ the Poppin’ riffs off the Bronx’s Pop Out Boys, whose members were accused of running an elaborate identity-theft ring. Per the Daily News: “The gang’s name referred to their flashy lifestyle.”
