Fifty years ago, Truman Capote threw a lavish and debauched masquerade ball, at the Plaza Hotel, that lives on in the imagination of naughty partygoers everywhere. This New Year's, the bar on the street with the most notorious history in Chinatown pays homage to the experience, with guests required to wear black and white plus an animal mask.

Feel the magic of a New York New Year’s at Westlight, the new rooftop bar at the top of the William Vale hotel in Williamsburg. The new West Side gastropub has a few things up its sleeve this New Year’s, with a five-hour open bar and complimentary hors d'oeuvres from 9 to 11:30 p.m. Bonus: They’re stationary, so no chasing waiters around for a pig in a blanket. Three tiers of seated VIP tickets with bottle service give you plenty of options for feeling special on a special night.

Webster Hall, 125 E. 11th St., nr. Third Ave., 212-353-1600; 8 p.m.; $99-$150 for tickets, $220 and up pp for tables
Make like Bill and Hill this year at Webster Hall’s annual shindig, where at the stroke of midnight you’ll be rewarded with an awe-inspiring 100,000-balloon drop. This is in addition to the four floors of dancing, circus performers, fire displays, an open bar for silver ticket holders, and after-hours performances by GRiZ (DJ) and Gramatik.

The McKittrick Masquerade
The McKittrick Hotel; 530 W. 27th St., nr. Tenth Ave. 212-904-1880; 10:30 p.m.; $225 to $550
The immersive play Sleep No More throws its annual fancy party, with several combinations of entertainment choices. Come early for the Decadent Dinner before heading through the play and ending at the Masquerade, which includes an open bar and musical performances. Or just do SNM and the Masquerade, or just the Masquerade. It’s up to you (and how much you’re willing to spend). Just don’t forget to adhere to the dress code of all black, red, white, or gold. And you didn’t hear it here, but body paint counts.

Bushwick Warehouse, Exact Location TBA 24 hours in advance; 9 p.m.; $60-$140

The Django opened up last fall in the Roxy hotel (formerly the Tribeca Grand) and has since been quietly putting on Parisian-style jazz parties in a sexy subterranean lounge space. New Year's is no exception, with a menu of craft cocktails and Champagne list and music made for dancing by jazz frontmen Ken Fowser, Rick Germanson, Paul Gill, and Jason Tiemann, as well as a headlining performance by the sixteen-piece Evan Sherman Big Band.
