Grab Some Anemones at Battenfeld's
Run out on Valentine's morning to pick up a bunch or two of these better-than-roses bouquets. The Battenfeld family has been growing anemones for over 40 years and violets for over 100�so be sure to take a peek around one of their eight greenhouses while you’re there. Go for an early morning coffee or locally sourced breakfast down the street at Another Fork in the Road (and be sure to order the Kelly Fries: fries slathered with aïoli and homemade hot sauce).

Have Drinks With a View at the Suminski Innski
From the deck of this eclectic B&B, you can stare out at the Hudson�and if you’re really lucky, catch a glimpse of the Hudson River Ice Yacht Club sailing one of their historic vessels across the frozen river. Catch a Flick at the Orpheum Theatre
The $5 to $8 ticket price at this charming Saugerties theater will be enough to shock a city couple into a jovial Valentines mood. The Orpheum was built in 1890 and was once a center for vaudeville acts, movies, roller-skating, and basketball�and it’s maintained most of its original details, like the giant 1930s marquee out front. Plus, it’s within walking distance of the excellent and cozy Miss Lucy’s Kitchen for dinner and Lucky Chocolates for Valentine’s sweets.

Stroll Down the Poets' Walk
This preserved park five miles north of the Rhinebeck Amtrak station is made up of 120 acres of meadows, forests, and a ravine. Wander through sunlit fields and cross scenic footbridges or stop at one of the cedar pavilions twined with creeping vines, where couples can take in the landscape and the frozen Hudson River. Afterwards, reward yourself with a prosciutto-and-brie sandwich and a sticky bun ten minutes away at Tivoli Bread and Baking.

Climb the Fire Tower at Ferncliff Forest
From this tiny wooden structure at the top of seven flights of (somewhat unnerving) steps, climbers will be rewarded with a stunning view of the Catskills and Hudson River Valley. Follow signs from the parking lot to the tower�you’ll pass a fish pond and a little brown cabin on the way. Then go get lunch or coffee five minutes away at the Matchbox Café in Rhinebeck�a restaurant aptly named for its minute size. Don’t leave without one of their decadent �Mayor Bloomberg-banned Butterfinger brownies.�

Have a Retro Throwback at Hyde Park Roller Magic
The Hudson Valley has no shortage of vintage roller rinks. But this one is the best�a little dated, but genuinely authentic and fun. A rundown exterior opens to a room painted neon yellow and pink from bottom to top, complete with a classic snack bar and a couple of kitschy arcade games. Plus, it shares a parking lot with the perfect Valentine's lunch spot for the low-maintenance couple: Hyde Park’s beloved Eveready Diner.

Hike the Kaaterskill Falls
Stick to the trail (from the parking area walk down to the bridge and follow the yellow markers from Bastion Falls) and you'll end up at a frozen two-drop waterfall mentioned in Rip Van Winkle and painted famously by Frederic Church and Thomas Cole. The views make the two-plus-hour drive (I-87N to NY-32N) well worth it.

Hit the Slopes at Hunter Mountain
For the athletic couple, Hunter has the whole winter sports package: tubing, a genuinely nice spa, and excellent snowboarding and skiing�including a 1,600-foot vertical drop.
