Anthropomorphic Insect Shadowbox Workshop: Valentine Day’s Special
Morbid Anatomy Museum; 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.; 424A Third Ave., at Seventh St., Gowanus; 347-799-1017; $75
The couple that makes anthropomorphic insect shadowboxes together, stays together. That's a saying, right? In this workshop, led by former AMNH senior insect preparator Daisy Tainton, you'll learn how to make your own shadowbox dioramas with rhinoceros beetles. Position them any way you like (maybe get them a tiny pen to write love letters!), but keep in mind that there's just one beetle per student. Even on Valentine's Day, the beetle stands alone.
Never Sleep Alone: Book Release Party
Joe's Pub; 9:30 p.m.; 425 Lafayette St., nr. Astor Pl.; 212-539-8500; $30-$40
In this popular variety show, "sexual psychologist" Dr. Alex Schiller (who is not a real doctor) covers pop and comedy songs alike, all while swiftly handing out love advice to make you desirable to potential mates. But those who've already snagged a Valentine's date are still welcome, they'll just be seated in the "voyeurs" section of the audience. (You pay a little extra, but you'll still learn something.) This show doubles as a book release party and every attendee will get a copy to enable some home schooling afterwards.

It's not only Valentine's Day, it's also the day after Friday the 13th. You can combine the two at this bloodlusty play based on the novel turned movie about teenage bullies and angst-ridden vampire love. You might just leave questioning what it means to be human.
Bloody Valentine's Weekend

If you're a thrill-seeker who'd rather do something more active, the haunted house Blood Manor will reopen Friday the 13th and Valentine's Day with a couple of packages available that include express entry and (spooky) Blood Manor merchandise. You'll be grateful to have another body to grab onto, as mayhem could spring from around every corner. Just be careful not to say "'Til death do us part" out loud. You never know who's listening.
