Hardball CollegeTour: Bob Dole

Former presidential candidate to appear on Feb. 19 at Barry University.

Sen. Bob Dole has been referred to as “a towering figure” as well as “the most enduring Republican leader of the twentieth century.” Twice decorated for heroic achievement in World War II and a political career that has spanned more than 30 years it’s not hard to see why. He joined Chris Matthews on the ‘Hardball College Tour’ at Barry University on Wednesday February 19th.

SEN. DOLE WAS elected to the Senate in 1968, nominated Chairman of the RNC in 1971, and ran as vice president on Ford’s 1976 Presidential ticket. In 1984 he was elected Senate Majority Leader and set a record as the longest serving Republican Leader before resigning in 1996 to devote his efforts entirely on his Presidential campaign. Although he won 41% of the popular vote, Sen. Dole lost to election incumbent President Clinton. In 1997 he was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom - the highest civilian award of U.S. Government.

Today Sen. Dole is a senior advisor to a leading DC law firm as well as Chairman of the International Commission on Missing Persons and the National World War II Memorial. Sen. Dole is now a congressional spouse as his wife Elizabeth was elected to the Senate in the fall of 2002, a distinction he shares with his ’96 presidential rival Bill Clinton. Dole’s also been a pitch man for Viagra.

A noted humorist of the Senate, Dole edited the book Great Political Wit: Laughing (Almost) All the Way to the White House.

Join us at 9 p.m. ET on February 19th to discuss the pending war with Iraq, the war on terrorism, the race for the white House 2004 and life after the U.S. Senate.

Tickets are limited. They will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis to Barry students only. To sign up for your ticket ahead of time, visit the Information Desk in Thompson Hall. One ticket per valid student I.D. Seating begins at 7:30 p.m. The audience must be seated by 8:30 p.m.
