A bomb exploded on a bus in Pakistan’s southern port city of Karachi on Saturday, wounding at least 10 people, a senior police official said.
InsertArt(2026118)THE BLAST badly damaged the bus, which was carrying at least 30 people as it moved through the city’s business district, said Zulifqar Ali, a spokesman for the Edhi Foundation, Pakistan’s main emergency relief agency.
At least three of the wounded were in critical condition, the foundation said.
There was no immediate claim of responsibility, and police said they have no information on who was behind it.
“So far we only know that 10 people have been wounded in a bomb explosion on a bus,” Deputy Inspector General police Tariq Jamil said.
He said four people had been treated and released, and that a preliminary check by experts showed the bomb was a low-intensity, homemade device.
It was the second time in a week that a bomb has exploded in Karachi, Pakistan’s largest city.
On Sept. 20, a bomb went off in a trash bin on the 10th floor of a 12-story building. No casualties were reported in the blast.
This city of 14 million people has seen a string of bombings, including a suicide attack that killed 14 Pakistanis in front of the U.S. Consulate last June. A bomb killed 11 French engineers a month earlier.
