Isabel Causes Football Moves

/ Source: StudentSports

The wet weather fallout and threat from Hurricane Isabel last week caused some shuffling of scheduled high school football games along the East Coast.

Hit hardest were games in Virginia, North Carolina, Maryland and Delaware with most scheduled contests postponed for the following days including Monday and a few on Tuesday.

Most scheduled Friday games in New Jersey and Pennsylvania were played although the Philadelphia area had most pushed back to Saturday. In the Harrisburg, Pa., area, all 22 scheduled contests were pushed back to Saturday kickoffs. In a couple of cases in the region, games were set for Sunday.

There were no reports of serious damage from the Hurricane to high school facilities or football-related accidents because of the inclement weather.

Ranked FAB 50 teams who had games moved included No. 10 North Penn of Lansdale, Pa.; No. 16 St. Joseph's Prep of Philadelphia; No. 28 Cumberland Valley of Mechanicsburg, Pa.; and No. 40 Phoebus of Hampton, Va.

This is the second straight week for a delay for Phoebus, which had the previous weekend game against Kecoughtan, a 40-7 win, moved to Monday.

All three ranked Pennsylvania teams won the delayed contests.
