Rhett Bomar Is A Sooner

While at the Irvine Spectrum in Irvine (Calif.) Saturday night, the final night of the EA SPORTS Elite 11 Quarterback camp, Grand Prairie's (Texas) Rhett Bomar decided to make his college choice and committed to the Oklahoma Sooners.

It was where my heart was at and where Ive wanted to go for awhile now, Bomar said. They have a strong program every year and since I knew without a doubt that was where I wanted to go, I just decided there was no reason to put it off.

Miami bound Kirby Freeman had his video camera in hand and told several of the quarterbacks he was with to go grab the hat of their future college choice so he could videotape them.

Bomar, along with Florida State bound Drew Weatherford, each grabbed three hats and laid them on the floor. Bomar grabbed a Sooner, Texas and Florida State hat and set them in front of him. He then picked up the Oklahoma hat, put it on his head and said he was committing to Oklahoma.

"I still haven't had a chance to reach the coaches yet but I'll do that later today," Bomar said. "I mainly just wanted to sleep on it and see how I felt in the morning and I feel just as good about it today as I did last night. I can't say this enough, it's just where my heart was at. I'm glad I have it out of the way this early so now I can focus on the upcoming football season as well as the baseball season. I would like to play both sports in college if I can and I think Oklahoma will be a great place to do that. Texas is a great school too and it was a tough decision but Oklahoma has been the school on my heart for awhile now."

Bomar has had an incredible week and many of the staff working the camp feel he could be the top quarterback in the camp, in what is the best group of quarterbacks we've ever had at the event.

"He's one of those guys who has the arm strength and athletic ability to play in any kind of offense," Andy Bark, the Director of the EA SPORTS Elite 11 said. "He has a great arm, he's smart, he makes the right reads and he can run, he can do everything. He's just a very gifted player." "This camp has been incredible for me," Bomar said. "I've had the best time and I'm looking forward to finishing up this last workout today. I've learned a lot and it was great to see and compete with the other top quarterbacks in the country. I just want to thank EA SPORTS and Student Sports for putting the event on, it has been great."
