1. De La Salle (Concord, Calif.) 2-0 (1)
Even though the offense suffered through a night of penalties and dropped passes, the Spartans still didnt have much trouble beating Palma of Salinas, 35-0, on Saturday at their home field. It was their 140th consecutive win. Palma, ranked No. 16 in the state and one of the top teams in the CIF Central Coast Section, was only able to generate one drive that got into the red zone against De La Salles lightning-quick defense. Willie Glasper kick-started the offense with a spectacular 83- yard TD run in the third quarter that made the score 21-0. He finished with 13 carries for 116 yards and three TDs. The Spartans host another CCS power, 3-0 St. Francis of Mountain View, in this weeks game.
2. Lufkin (Lufkin, Texas) 3-0 (4)
Javorskie Lane rushed 19 times for 161 yards and two TDs as the Panthers overpowered Aldine Eisenhower, 34-18. The No. 1 ranked Class 5A Texas team visits Marshall next week with two showdowns against district rival, and FAB 50 ranked, Longview also still on the schedule. Longview is the same team that knocked off last weeks No. 2 team in the FAB 50, Evangel Christian of Louisiana. Two more wins over Longview, a school Lufkin beat three times last season, would solidify the teams rankings jump over Warren Harding this week.
3. Warren Harding (Warren, Ohio) 5-0 (3)
The Raiders were pushed to the limit by unbeaten, state-ranked Lakewood St. Edward before winning, 27-20 in overtime. It was a rematch of last season's state Division I semifinals. Harding tackles Youngstown Ursuline Friday.
4. Los Alamitos (Los Alamitos, Calif.) 3-0 (5)
Jimmy Barnes connected on 17 of 27 passes for 293 yards and three TDs as the Griffins clipped Brea-Olinda of Brea, 24-14. The score was 14-14, though, in the third quarter before Los Al regained control on a 57-yard scoring pass from Barnes to Randy Estes. Los Al has this week off and takes on La Habra October 3rd.
5. Palm Bay (Melbourne, Fla.) 3-0 (6)
The Pirates hiked win streak to 16 games with a 40-13 romp over winless city rival Melbourne High. Dwight Sliger, a transfer from Melbourne, led Palm Bay with 116 yards on 17 carries. Palm Bay visits Bayside on Friday.
6. Warren Central (Indianapolis, Ind.) 5-0 (7)
The Warriors are flexing their football muscles against Terre Haute teams. Last week, it was a 71-9 pasting of winless South. The previous week, it was 69-0 over North.
7. Carroll (Southlake, Texas) 3-0 (8)
The Dragons extended their win streak to 19 games with a 51-28 romp over previously unbeaten Denison. Carroll rushed for 307 yards and quarterback Chase Daniel passed for 228 yards.
8. Don Bosco Prep (Ramsey, N.J.) 2-0 (9)
New Jersey's No. 1 ranked team pounded Montclair by 56-6.
9. North Penn (Lansdale, Pa.) 4-0 (10)
The No. 1 ranked Class 4A team in Pennsylvania rocked Abington, 49-7. North Penn has allowed only four TDs while averaging over 41 points a game.
10. St. Ignatius (Cleveland, Ohio) 5-0 (12)
Quarterback Brian Hoyer, a Michigan State recruit, completed 10 of 15 passes for 159 yards and two TDs as the Wildcats pulled away from rival Canton McKinley, 34-14. St. Ignatius takes on Massillon Washington on Saturday.
