NBC News anchor and bestselling author Tom Brokaw joined NBC News in 1966, reporting from California and anchoring for KNBC, the NBC television station in Los Angeles. In his memoir, “A Long Way From Home, Growing up in the American Heartland in the Forties and Fifties,” Brokaw takes readers to the years before he became a national television presence, when he was growing up in South Dakota, learning Midwestern values through life lessons and the example of his family.After appearing on NBC’s Today show, Brokaw chats with MSNBC.com about his childhood.
