A Tokyo-bound Northwest Airlines flight was diverted to Anchorage over the weekend after an unruly man assaulted passengers and flight crew members, federal officials said Monday.
The flight, which began in Detroit Saturday, made an unscheduled stop in Anchorage, where the unruly passenger was arrested, officials of the Federal Bureau of Investigation said. The aircraft resumed its journey to Japan after only a brief delay, said FBI special agent Eric Gonzalez.
Frank Benjamin Sahutske, 47, of Warren, Michigan, was being held in an Anchorage jail and was scheduled for an initial hearing Monday. He was charged with committing crimes aboard an aircraft and interfering with a flight crew.
