Who’s your favorite New Yorker, living or dead, real or fictional?
Derek Jeter
What’s the best meal you’ve eaten in New York?
“Mama’s” pasta at Gradisca. She comes over from Italy every few months and makes it at a table by the front door.
In one sentence, what do you actually do all day in your job?
I go to meetings, absorb the news, argue with [producer] Kim Rosenberg and read the TelePromTer poorly.
Would you still live here on a $35,000 salary?
I would have stayed in Mississippi where 35g will still pay the bills.
What’s the last thing you saw on Broadway?
I saw Rent like fifteen years ago.
Do you give money to panhandlers?
Very rarely.
What’s your drink?
Heineken or Ketel One depending on the urgency of the mission.
How often do you prepare your own meals?
Occasionally. More often in the summer.
What’s your favorite medication?
Is Heineken a medication?
What’s hanging above your sofa?
Nothing. Nobody.
How much is too much to spend on a haircut?
For me? $40.01.
When’s bedtime?
Five to six hours before wake-up time, in a perfect world.
Which do you prefer, the old Times Square or the new Times Square?
Old. A Disneyfied Times Square just doesn’t feel like it’s part of New York’s gritty DNA.
What do you think of Donald Trump?
I don’t think of him at all, really.
What do you hate most about living in New York?
I hate that it’s so far from my family.
Who is your mortal enemy?
LSU. I’m for Ole Miss and whoever’s playing the Tigers.
When’s the last time you drove a car?
Last weekend.
Who should be the next president?
I was all about Stephen Colbert. Sad, really, that he was dismissed so callously.
Times, Post, or Daily News?
This is the line where I write Post.
Where do you go to be alone?
Home.
What makes someone a New Yorker?
For me it was experiencing 9/11 here.
