Sarah Palin and John McCain looked a little confused last night when Heart’s “Barracuda” came blasting over the loudspeakers during their catwalk down the convention runway, didn’t they? Especially Palin, who actually seemed to comprehend what was going on. As it turns out, Heart was confused, too: this morning they sent out a statement saying that they “did not and would not” authorize the use of their song at the RNC. “I feel completely fucked over,” singer Nancy Wilson told Entertainment Weekly. “Sarah Palin’s views and values in NO WAY represent us as American women.”
But the Republicans loved it.
They got down. They boogied. They shook their groove things. CNN’s insanely awesome camerapeople captured it all; and naturally some clever person on YouTube has already compiled the footage into a rollicking music video set to the illegally used tune, above. It’s all there: the Texas delegation with their cowboy hats, the guy with the bobbling elephant hat, the dude in the Abraham Lincoln mask (is that a mask?), the old ladies bobbing cheerfully to “You’d have me down down down down on my kneeees.” And you can’t see him, but we just know Steve Schmidt was up in the rafters somewhere, playing air guitar.
