Just in Time for Thanksgiving, Adorable Presidential-Family Stories

Thank goodness Mike Allen of the Politico Playbook watches all the morning shows, because sometimes we can’t deal with all of the endless belt-tightening stories (now we’re up to weight loss, food shopping, makeover, and investing versions). This morning he brings us all sorts of warm tales about the Obama and Bush families, to remind you that they, too, are humans, just in time for the holiday break. First, on Good Morning America, Laura Bush assured viewers that her mother-in-law, Barbara Bush (who had been hospitalized for slight pain), was recovering. Then she talked about how her twin daughters taught the Obama girls how to make an obstacle course out of the main hallway and how you can slide down the ramp in the residence solarium on your butt! “We did a little bed-jumping, the girls sort of showed them — it wasn’t the Lincoln Bedroom, it was another bedroom with a very tall bed that we usually put a step out for people to step into when they stay in that room,” the First Lady explained. “But instead the little girls did the running jump, and Barbara and Jenna, of course, aided and abetted that jumping.” This is exactly the adorable imagery America hoped for when it voted in the young First Daughters-Elect!

Elsewhere on ABC, Barbara Walters talked about her own very special 20/20 interview with the Obamas and told about how the family is having 60 people over for dinner but Michelle is totally not cooking. “My husband ran for president,” she said, quite rightly. “I should have an ‘out’ of cooking something for dinner.” Also, and this is the cutest, at one point Barack paused the interview to clean some lipstick off Michelle’s teeth. Barbara nearly died. “I don’t want to gush,” she said. But … “they’re very cute and very funny in this interview together.”

On that fitting note of vague couple-grossness and cuddliness, we’ll leave you to your Thanksgiving. We’ll miss you very much, and we’ll be back on Monday!
