Republicans Seemingly Unimpressed With Bloomberg’s Best Efforts at Flirting

Mayor Bloomberg just got out of that meeting with the city’s five Republican chairmen we told you about yesterday. His goal was to get permission to run on the Republican party line again for mayor this year. According to the Daily News, Bloomberg left the confab in good spirits. “I said the last time, the last two times I ran, I ran on the Republican line, and I’d be honored to run again,” the mayor continued. “And we’ll see what they decide to do. But it was a nice meeting, constructive meeting, and most of the politics we talked about were actually not politics of New York City.” Shortly afterward, the GOP county leaders released this murky and oddly emphatic statement:

WITH TODAYS FISCAL CRISIS AND OTHER ISSUES AFFECTING THE CITY OF NEW YORK, WE THANK THE MAYOR FOR TAKING THE TIME AWAY FROM THE BUSINESS OF THE CITY TO MEET WITH US AND FOR HIS PARTICIPATION IN THIS PROCESS.”

So, we didn’t really learn anything today. Except that the Republican party here in New York is controlled by people who send e-mails like your grandmother.
