According to EW’s Michael Ausiello, who breaks so much Gossip Girl news we swear the little guy must have a hiding spot nestled somewhere in Blake Lively’s mountainous cleavage, the writers of the show are planning a story line that is ripped from the headlines. Serena will fall victim to a handsome, smooth, foreign playboy who seems to have everything going for him. Intel fave Stephanie Savage, who writes and executive-produces the show, told Ausiello that Serena’s beau is “very well traveled, part of the global elite. He’s not a brooding artist like Dan or Aaron Rose. He’s definitely a grown-up, and that’s something Serena is very attracted to.” Of course, knowing the show, all will not be as it seems, because the plotline is apparently based on our favorite fizzled duo of 2008, actress Anne Hathaway and Italian fraud Raffaello Follieri!
Word is that GG’s version of the story will take a turn that is so much darker than the Hathaway saga that it ultimately puts Serena’s life in danger. Moreover, it triggers the return of Michelle Trachtenberg’s Georgina Sparks and casts our heroine’s sworn frenemy in the unlikely role of savior.
Of course, not everything can be parallel: Serena isn’t a talented, famous actress, and there has already been a major fraud plotline on the show. But here are some highlights we can only pray are included: Serena’s diary is seized by the Feds, the Pope gets involved, and Serena hangs out with John McCain and Bill Clinton. The possibilities (especially involving that last one) are really limitless.
