Despite his voiced desire to spend more time with his family and try to help journalism survive in new ways, WWD reports that much-loved Observer editor Peter Kaplan might take up a soon-to-be vacant No. 2 spot on the masthead at Condé Nast Traveler. A cushier post with a better schedule, but still, not quite an arrival at either goal. The trade also reports that Kaplan’s departure might not have been “as diplomatic as it seems,” and that conflict with his young publisher, Jared Kushner, a novice to the media world, may have had something to do with it. This was bolstered by an aside from Kushner in the Post, who denied that there was strife but also said, “We decided about a month ago that it was time for him to move on” (emphasis ours).
