Ever since Rush Limbaugh became the de facto leader of the Republican Party, approximately six GOP politicians have publicly criticized or downplayed the radio host’s influence, only to backtrack and grovel for his forgiveness soon after, as the Democrats have gleefully documented. But one Republican personality we don’t expect to apologize to Limbaugh anytime soon is John McCain’s mother, Roberta McCain. She was on Leno last night, and goddamn if she isn’t the sharpest, most alert 135-year-old we’ve ever seen. And feisty! When Leno asked her what she thought of Limbaugh, she didn’t hold back. “I don’t know what the man means. I don’t know what he’s talking about,” she said. “Limbaugh you’re complimenting him when you say the man is an entertainer. I don’t know what he is! But he does not belong to the Republican Party that I belong to.” It occurs to us that certain parts of the GOP are probably very much tiring of everyone in the McCain family about now.
