Hey, remember when pirates were the country’s all-consuming preoccupation and a threat to the free world, like, two weeks ago? Well they’re back, at least for today, as Congress invites hero-captain Richard Phillips and other, unheroic government experts to the Hill to testify on the apparently ongoing scourge of piracy. New Jersey senator Frank Lautenberg, the host of the hearings, is releasing a video of the April 14 attack on the Liberty Sun, the Long Island ship that survived a pirate assault days after Captain Phillips was rescued. We get a kick out of the cameraman, who exclaims “They hit my room, man, blew up my bed!” as bullets fly nearby just don’t expect any swashbuckling.
