Less than a day after the New York Times Newspaper Guild officially approved a 5 percent pay cut in order to stave off more layoffs, the paper’s management announced that it will be raising the newsstand price of the paper. The weekday and Saturday editions will cost $2 starting in June, up from $1.50. The jumbo Sunday paper will go up to $6 from $5 nationally, and here in New York it’ll go to $5 from $4. This marks the second time the publication has increased in price in less than a year, and is just another effort on behalf of the New York Times Company to combat a 27 percent slump in ad sales from last year.
