Unethical Ethics Panel Head Resigns

Herbert Teitelbaum, the executive director of the Public Integrity Commission responsible for probing government ethics violations, stepped down yesterday under pressure from Governor Paterson. A report from the state inspector general found that Teitelbaum continuously shared confidential information about an investigation into the Spitzer administration with one of Spitzer’s aides. In the alternate reality that is Albany, the commission’s chairman praised Teitelbaum’s “honor” and “professionalism,” while Teitelbaum urged the rest of the panel to continue to stand firm for the sake of its (apparently positive) reputation.
