After reports that funds for the wildly popular “Cash for Clunkers” program had run dry, Press Secretary Robert Gibbs assured a nation of distressed car owners this afternoon that they could still secure a $4,500 credit from the government if they made a mad rush to a nearby dealership this weekend. But not long after, Congress passed an extension of the program with an infusion of $2 billion. Given how quickly the money ran out the first go-round, though, you may want to make that mad rush anyway. [WP]
