The DNC’s Health-Care Ad Doesn’t Entirely Make Sense

The Democratic National Committee is up with a web-only ad that, as expected, is aimed at demonizing the protesters who have shown up to recent health-care town halls, many to simply disrupt and shout down congressmen. “The right-wing, extremist Republican base is back,” an ominous narrator intones as images of recent protests and that crazy birther lady flash onscreen, before then blaming them for “eight years of failed policies that ruined our economy and cost millions of jobs.” Wait, what? You could say a lot of things about the birthers and the Tea Party activists, but we’re pretty sure they weren’t running the economy over the past eight years. That is, unless the Republican leadership — people like Mitch McConnell and John Boehner, whose photos are also shown — are one and the same as the party’s most extreme elements. Now we get it.
