A document leaked to the Washington Post reveals that over 30 members of Congress are being investigated for ethics violations. Most cases are related to allegations of influence peddling with corporate or defense lobbyists which, given everything we know about Congress, while depressing, really isn’t entirely shocking. More surprising is how the document became public in the first place. According to the vague explanation provided by the Post, a “junior staff member” working from home had accidentally placed it on a “file-sharing network,” and “it was provided to The Washington Post by a source not connected to the congressional investigations.” So, what, someone was just cruising some P2P program looking for porn or a pirated version of Saw VI, spotted a mind-numbingly boring-sounding file called “Committee on Standards Weekly Summary Report,” and decided to check it out?
